Twelve Steps to a Hassle-Free Download
. . . and How to Open Your New E-Book

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DOWNLOAD SPEEDS: File size 26.8 MB. Will download fairly quickly with broadband/DSL. At a modem dialup speed of 40 kbps, download will take 60 - 120 mins. You can use your computer for other tasks during that time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1)
Click on the Adobe icon (after you close this printable page) to go to the download page at Adobe. If you're not sure how to get back to the Adobe icon, type this URL into your browser: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html.

(2) When you get there, click the "Get Adobe Reader" button.

(3) Choose a language (probably English if you're reading this) and the download that's right for your type of computer; e.g. Windows 2000.

(4) Choose a connection: dialup or broadband. (Dial-up means that you manually connect to the Internet; broadband is usually automatic, i.e., it's always connected.)

(5) Put a checkmark in these boxes: Download full version and Do not use Adobe Download Manager. Click red Download button. Disregard the warning about files that may harm your computer (unless you do not trust the source of this download, which is Adobe).

(6) Click Save. A box will pop up asking where you want to save this on your computer. All you have to do is choose a folder. IMPORTANT: Choose a folder you'll be able to find later (e.g. if you always save your stuff in "My Documents" put it there). The .exe file is already named so don't change the file name. Just choose a folder and click Save.

(7) A box on your screen will continually tell you how much longer the download will take. You can minimize this box and do other tasks.

(8) When the download is done, look for the Adobe Reader .exe file (which will be in the folder you saved it in). It will stand out as the file with an icon of a red box containing a white triangle.

(9) Double-click on .exe file. (Note: You may have heard never to click on .exe files, but this advice applies to when you don't know the source of the file—such as in a Spam email.)

(10) An optimizer box will "recompose your data." The Install Wizard will now guide you through the installation. When finished installing, the Install Wizard will ask if you want to restart your computer. Say yes!

(11) After your computer restarts, you'll have a new icon on your desktop (called Adobe Reader 7.0)—an Adobe white triangle on red background. To use your new reader, double click on the icon. Adobe may ask you to activate your free account. Follow their simple instructions.

(12) After the reader opens, click eBooks in the top right hand corner. To open your new e-book, select My Bookshelf. Now click on "Add a File." Add a File lets you browse your folders and open PDF files. When you find your new e-book, double click on it and it will appear in your Adobe bookshelf. Now click the Read button.
